Osprey!! A Unit Study { A to Z Blogging Challenge }

We're big fans of wildlife.
One day very recently, my son and I headed to the beach at dawn
for the sunrise.
The sky at daybreak
was g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s, the salt air was fresh and inviting,
the sand was vacant
and many pictures were snapped.
On the way back to the car, my little guy spotted an osprey.....
I'm sure you've seen your share as well.
He took several pictures.....
Here's the first through the reeds~

After waiting it out a bit and moving the beach grass, he was able to take
a few more, clearer pictures:

Since his future career plans include veterinary medicine,
and since he has a keen interest in learning all he can
about  all creatures,
we, of course, came home to research this
relatively common bird of prey.

Here are a few resources we found helpful and some info
on the osprey or Pandion haliaetus ~

National Geographic has a wealth of data
and a very user friendly page in their "animal a to z" collection.
The map shows the natural osprey range!

There's also a mini video and a "fast fact" tab which
includes this data:

We have  copy of the Peterson Guide  on our shelf because my
husband, and subsequently, my kids, are huge bird lovers and watchers.
A wealth of info.

My son had been given this book, the
some time ago and really, it's perfect for him.

My son's also creating  a clay "model" of the osprey now,
which I'll photograph and add in.

Today's day 15 ~ O,  of the A to Z Challenge!
I'm writing off a picture/s or a thought/s for the month.....
No real "theme," just a stream of consciousness,
or home school,  family jottings.
Please visit tomorrow for P, day 16 !
