Adirondack Memories 2016 ~ Happy 100th Birthday Dad!

Many an August 17th during  the 70s and 80s
 was spent celebrating,
the strains of "Happy birthday to Daaa-aa-aa-aad"
echoing across the lake, pictures snapped,
gifts unwrapped and always appreciated,
family time enjoyed, never taken for granted.
Many a memory was created,
laughter shared, smiles beaming,
the everyday stresses temporarily abated while here,
while in this magical, mountainous spot.

Dad returned home in 1945  to civilian life and
 eventually to 5 children and 4 children-in-law,
  9 grandchildren, 2 of them--mine--he never met,
but who have heard stories that bring to life his memory,
5 great grandchildren, all of them, who never met him.
As youngest of 5, Dad was 49 when I was born in 1965....

There's a party in heaven tonight, Dad.
And it is particularly serendipitous that I get to be here in this paradise,
spying Cassiopeia and gazing out on the lake,
just as we did many moons ago on this very day, so, so many times.
I love you Dad. Miss you always.
