Alexandria Robinson, of The Genesis Feminist.
I'm privileged to introduce you to Alexandria,
if you don't yet know her, her wonderful blog
and her soon-to-be-released book,
A Catholic Millennial's Guide to the Bible
And to Alexandria's friends and readers who are visiting,
a hearty welcome! I hope you'll stay and become regulars here!
One of the most important things we can do is invest in the next generation and parents who homeschool know this well. There are a plethora of reasons to homeschool your child but my favorite is the investment in their faith. Raising children in our modern world is tremendously difficult with all the things competing for their attention. One of the most important things a parent can do is to give their child a faith-filled foundation for the rest of their lives. This is easier said than done, especially with teenagers and young adults.
One of the greatest ways to support their faith is to teach them the importance of regular Scripture reading. Spending time in the Word of God will serve them well as they go through college, early professional life, and starting families of their own. But convincing someone who isn’t keen on their faith in the first place to spend time reading the Bible is almost impossible. I wrote A Catholic Millennial’s Guide to the Bible to help answer some of the most common objections to Scripture reading that young people face today. In the book, I share about how the sciences can only exist because God exists, contrary to the notion that one can either believe in religion or believe in science. The truth is, the natural world is created by God with order, structure, and balance. Scientific theories are forever theories without being able to replicate the experiment and getting the same result: order, structure, balance.
I also share the all-important, how? So many of us mean well when it comes to our faith journey, but without the right tools to assist us, we falter. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had the idea that I want to read the Bible in a year or read 5 chapters a day and I just can’t maintain that. Young people are prone to ambitious thought and this can sometimes translate into their relationship with the Lord. Some kids are perfectionists and get very worked up when they don’t meet the standards they have imposed upon themselves. Some think they can’t be successful in the goal so they don’t try in the first place. In the book, I talk about how to establish a simple and attainable routine to Bible time which will help them throughout all stages of life.
A Catholic Millennial’s Guide to the Bible can help homeschool parents root their young people in Christ. We know that the world bombards us with negativity, pain, and disappointment. The Lord offers us healing, wisdom, and joy through his Word. I am of the opinion that the Bible is one of the most underutilized resources by my generation. We are so full of hope, yet we are easily distracted and disappointed by the world around us. That’s why I work every day to develop my relationship with the Lord. I know that where human beings will fail, my God is with me always. As young people face new challenges the best thing we can do for them is to pass on the gift of faith to the next generation. My book is a tool to help convince young people of the importance of cultivating a relationship with their God and King.
Alexandria Robinson is the author of the new book, A Catholic Millennial’s Guide to the Bible. In it, she explains how to the Word of God is relevant to our lives in the modern day, the Church’s relationship with Scripture throughout history, and how the Bible came to be. It is written by and for young Catholic laity to encourage them on their long journey home to our Heavenly Father. It will make a great Lenten read or Easter gift.
